Super Heroes Hidden Talents" is not just a children’s book; it’s a colorful, vibrant, picturesque and spirited story inspired by an island and its reef in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Each character has a unique talent waiting to be discovered, explored or showcased. Centering these marine characters in their oceanic world, the book becomes the gap between the wonders of ocean life and everyday experience for young learners. In that way, each discovery in the story inspires them to express their talents.
This reserve served as the inspiration for the book. The marine characters were based on children that Amparo knows or met through her experiences with the New York City educational system.  The upkeep of the Reserva Marina Arrecife de la Isla Verde is supported by a collaborative effort between community members, the Department of Natural & Environmental Resources, and Arrecifes Pro Ciudad LLC. 
The book also includes definitions and information about laws protecting children with special needs. Parents, service providers, or anyone working with children will find practical strategies and suggestions throughout. While some advice may seem like common sense, it’s not always practiced—so feel free to enjoy, use, and implement these ideas.
